Is Feminism Fashion?

So yesterday I overheard someone say feminism is just in at the moment and is like the latest fashion trend which really frustrated me. Women wanting equal rights isn't a fashion statement, women wanting to not be sexually objectified isn't a fashion statement, wanting equal rights for everyone isn't a fashion statement. This isn't going to be a post about how men are cunts and we should bring boys up to learn not to rape or to not sexualise women. It about what i think feminism is and why its so important.
Feminism isn't just about equal rights for women, it holds a much larger historic meaning to it and it frustrates me so much how in the past year the true meaning behind it seems to be lost and ignored by many who instead use it to define women and be little them.
Yes I understand that in some instances feminism, like many other movements can be taken to far but there's time where these boundaries need to be broken to get people to pay attention.

'the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes'

Not only does Feminism give women a platform to talk about gender equality but it also allows attention to be drawn on other important gender bias matters. Over the past couple of years its been a topic vastly talked about and its allowed for topics such as genital mutilation, child marriage and rape to become less of a taboo topic.

'Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism isn't a stick with which to beat other other women with. It's about freedom, it's about liberation, it's about equality' Emma Watson

Being a feminist doesn't mean hating men, hating others who don't believe what you do it's about wanting equality and love for everyone whether that's women, men, gays, lesbians, anyone anyone at all. Feminism is a movement with so much more depth and meaning to it then just hate. Feminism is about love and having that passion and drive to do something about the sexism, the stigma and the setbacks not only women face but everyone. Feminism relates to everyone and anyone can be a feminist. Yes that's right even you boys can be a feminist

'we've began raising our daughters like sons,,, but few have the courage to raise sons more like daughters' Gloria Steinem

Ask yourself, if you were to sit back and watch your son and daughter and live out their life the same who would be judged more, who is more likely to be sexualised, who's more likely to have to think about what they say so they don't offend others. One of the most frustrating thing I have to do that my boyfriend doesn't have to do, my male friends don't have to do or even male celebrities have to do is apologise before they say something or have to apologise for their OWN opinion because men don't like it. If a male was to say his opinion on matters such as abortion and his opinion offended a female, society wouldn't expect him to apologise because every ones entitled to their own opinion but when it comes to a females opinion it depends when it's acceptable. Now i know some of you will be reading this thinking its bullshit but its not this was based on a conversation had while waiting for a lecture to start. I was told my opinion wasn't right but when a guy said the exact same thing he was praised for it.

let that sink in he was praised yet my opinion faced backlash...
