Should Individuals Who Identify As Transgender Be Allowed To Serve In The Military?
I think the fact that this is even a debatable topic of conversation in
this day and age is disgusting it's as if things are moving back in time
instead of taking the steps forward needed for everyone to be treated equal and
for everyone to be accepted how they are.
This topic of conversation is currently a topic on people's lips because
of Donald Trump. In a number of tweets, he decided that the current 15,000
soldiers who identify as transgender, who are already risking their lives
fighting for his country and the many others who already have fought for the
country and those who wish to do so in the future don't deserve to fight for
their country because they cost too much and cause too much of a
disturbance.
"Our military must be focused on
decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous
medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would
entail."
Now let’s just take a minute to laugh at the fact the man who spent 10
million, that’s right 10 million in just a month on three golf trips, the man
who has spent over 24 million in the short period as president on travel alone
that's more than Obama spent in a year. Now that 10 million in a month on golf
trips is already more than the amount the U.S military spends a year on medical
care for transgender soldiers. Now if it's acceptable to spend 10 million in a
month on golf then why is 8.4 million too much to spend on a years’ worth of
medical care for people fighting for his country? Now let's also touch on the
fact that over 40 million is spent on Viagra by the U.S military but 8.4
million is too much.
Additionally, the so-called disruption that Trump believes transgender
soldiers cause is basically bullsh*t, let’s be serious it really is. Through
information released by the U.S military it is said that between 29-100 members
of the military have had full gender reassignment ever. If they have the
surgery the majority don't even take 6 months’ time out of being deployed to
recover from the surgery. Taking a couple of months out after being deployed
for months for such an important life changing procedure for me I don't see how
this can be seen as disruptive.
Personally, I think that if someone is fit and healthy and willing to
join and serve in the army then they should be allowed. No matter if they are
male, female, gay, straight, bisexual, transgender anything, it’s their
decision to make not someone else's. I'd love to hear everyone's views on the
matter whether you agree with the ban or if you don't. Everyone's entitled to
their opinion and I'd love to hear what is it.
